Child Care Subsidy (CCS)

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) provides financial support to families using Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services. It replaces the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR) from 2 July 2018.

This payment is made directly to the ECEC service and the family will pay any difference between the actual fee charged and the subsidy that is paid on their behalf.

The factors that will determine your family’s level of CCS support include:

. Combined family income

. How much the parents work, based on the activity of the parent who works least, https://www.education.gov.au/child-care-subsidy-activity-test-0

. The type of childcare service the family uses

Subsidy Rate (the lower of fee charged or maximum hourly rate)

Where can families get more information about the new Child Care Subsidy (CCS)?

The Department of Education and Training has published a list of frequently asked questions to help families understand the new package. These are available at www.education.gov.au/new-child-care-package-frequently-asked-questions

There is also an online Child Care Subsidy estimator, which allows families to work out their level of subsidy under the new CCS. The tool asks users for details such as family income before tax, the number of hours each parent works a fortnight and how many children they have. You can access the estimator at https://www.education.gov.au/ChildCarePackage

If you have any further questions about these upcoming changes, talk to your child care service or contact the Centrelink Family and Parent line on 136 150 (Mon – Fri 8am – 8pm).
